LOCAL WORKFORCE TRAINING

Hutchinson/Reno County is home to a premier institution, Hutchinson Community College and Area Vocational School (HCC), which has provided 75 years of service to the community.

With ever-changing technology, it has become increasingly difficult for a business to stay competitive without sacrificing the qualities that made their organization successful. HCC provides cutting-edge technology and experience that can support a business’ wide range of training requirements.

In addition to offering two-year degrees, HCC serves the south central Kansas region for a wide range of vocation training. Some of the resources at HCC include:

ACT Centers: A nationwide network of ACT Centers delivers training and testing services to individuals, employers, and professional organizations using computer-based technologies, the Internet, and other cutting-edge processes. HCC opened the first ACT Center in Kansas, and now hosts one of only three centers serving the state.
The Center serves as a comprehensive resource for workforce development and offers over two thousand electronic on-demand courses combined with face-to-face instruction to enhance learning when requested.

WE CARE Programs: “We Care Teaming” and “We Care Customer Relations Program” are part of a family of programs designed to improve the customer service and teamwork abilities of companies with a dynamic, highly effective interpersonal relations model. Over 400,000 people in 15 countries around the world have been trained in the “We Care” process, resulting in more effective communication as well as improved human relations and stress management skills.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration Program: HCC is dedicated to improving worker safety through training and awareness. As a result, HCC is the host of an Occupational Safety and Health Administration Program, providing flexible, employee-oriented safety training.

Reno County Workforce Development Center: The Reno County Workforce Development Center is a public/private venture combining resources in a One-Stop employment and training center for employers, job seekers, and workers. The center provides a friendly, professional environment that focuses on integrating employment and educational training service to achieve an improved employment matchmaking process, all through One-Stop area participants. HCC created the first operating One-Stop in the state through a partnership with the Hutchinson/Reno Chamber of Commerce and a number of local committed businesses.

Leadership Development Program: The Leadership Development Program at Hutchinson Community College is designed to meet the needs of new and emerging leaders, as well as experienced leaders who seek to enhance existing skills. The program was developed in cooperation with the HCC Leadership Advisory Committee, composed of area business leaders. Organizations can choose from a seminar or customized-training format, fulfilling specific requirements and needs.

The Shear’s Technology Center is a technical training facility that provides further workforce development possibilities at Hutchinson Community College. The Technology Center provides business and industry with a place to develop their workforce, hold meetings or retreats, and access customized training or traditional technical training programs. The Center houses video-conferencing facilities, the ACT Center, computer labs, multimedia classrooms and industrial laboratories.

Excel Degree Completion Program: HCC offers a degree completion program through a cooperative effort with Central Christian College of McPherson.  Professionals already in the labor force can earn their Bachelor of Science degree in just 18 months.
